DIY | Jewellery with Chains

smykker med charms

I have created a new little collection of earthreads, necklaces and bracelets, in which chains are the main theme.

I’ve used half-drilled pearls and teardrops, as well as a variety of pendants.

All of these pieces can be made in silver as well.

Bracelets with cable chain and charms

armbånd med kæde og charms

For this bracelet, the following materials were used:

16cm cable chain, gilded, 50cm
1 pc. half-drilled bead, green amethyst
1 pc. half-drilled bead, coral, 6mm
1 pc. half-drilled bead, emerald,  6mm
3 pcs. bail, cup with peg, gilded silver
1 pc. elephant with eye, gilded brass
1 pc. dragonfly with eye, gilded brass
7 pcs. jumpring, gilded silver, 3mm
2 pcs. jumpring, gilded silver, 4mm
1 pc. lobster claw clasp, gilded silver, 9mm
5cm cable chain, jumprings, wire
1 pc. gilded sphere pendant with eye, 3mm
adhesive

You begin by combining the bails and the half-drilled beads, using the adhesive. You then choose the spots on your bracelet, where the beads should hang and use the 3mm  jumpring to put them in place. Next, you have to choose where to place the pendants using 2pcs of 3mm jumprings. You will have to use 2 jumprings in order to make each of the pendants face the right way.

Lastly, you place the lobster claw clasp in one end of the chain, using a 4mm jumpring. In the other end of the chain, you place the short cable chain, again by applying a 4mm jumpring and you’re done. The short cable chain piece makes you able to adjust the length of the bracelet.

Earthreads with crystal

ørekæder med anborede krystaldråber

For these earthreads, the following materials were used:

2 pcs. half-drilled glass-bead teardrop, green

2 pcs. bail, cup with peg, gilded silver
1 pair earthreads with loop and peg, 12cm
adhesive

anboret dråbe krystal

Begin by glueing the bail to the teardrop. Make sure, that the bail is not to long before you begin glueing, otherwise cut down until desired length is reached. If the eye in the earthreads cannot be opened manually, you will have to cut them open. Be careful however, that the eye does not break in the process. Place the teardrop and close the eye again. If you do not want to cut into the eye, you could instead apply a 3mm jumpring as the “connection”.

Earthreads with chalcedony

For these earthreads, the following materials were used:

2 pcs. half-drilled teardrop, chalcedony

2 pcs. bail, cup with peg, gilded silver
2 pcs. earthreads with loop and peg, 12cm
adhesive

anboret dråbe aquamarin

Same procedure as above.

Necklace with bird

forgyldt kæde med fugl

For this necklace, the following materials were used:

ca. 60cm cable chain, gilded (dublé)
1 pc. gilded brass charm bird
1 pc. jumpring, gilded silver, 3mm

Start off by leading your chain through the “eye” of the bird. You then close the chain using a jumpring. This cable chain is lenghty enough, to be able to get over your head. If you choose to use a shorter chain, you will have to apply a locking mechanism to the chain.

Necklace with butterfly

For this necklace, the following materials were used:

ca. 60cm cable chain, gilded (dublé)

1 pc. gilded brass charm butterfly
1 pc. jumpring, gilded silver, 3mm

Same procedure as above. Start off by leading your chain through the “eye” of the butterfly. You then close the chain using a jumpring. ca. 60cm cable chain, gilded (dublé)
1 pc. gilded brass charm puzzle piece
1 pc. jumpring, gilded silver, 3mm

Same procedure as above. Start off by leading your chain through the “eye” of the puzzle piece. You then close the chain using a jumpring.
